The Great Humourous Debate

Another fascinating Globe and Mail poll:

Globeandmailpollhumour_1

What makes me think that 11827 males were clicking away at their computer to ensure that they came out as the one with a 'superior sense of humour'?

A new study has been released that show women enjoy jokes more because they are not always expecting the punch line while men enjoy more one-liners and more physical humour, such as that displayed by the Three Stooges.

Perhaps this explains why so many men find the Three Stooges funny while so many women don't see the attraction. I think we women should band together and protest the Globe results. I say it was fixed!

Have you heard the one where a gorilla walks into the bar...?

Cubicle Humour

Being a cubicle-dweller, I thought that these alternative names for where we spent a good portion of our working lives in were pretty funny:

  • 14. Soul-Sucking Pod o' Death
  • 13. Tomb of the Unknown Bureaucrat
  • 12. Slack-In-The-Box
  • 11. Headquarters, Jodie Foster Fan Club
  • 10. Peon Palazzo
  • 9. Yuppie Terrarium
  • 8. The SnackFooda Triangle
  • 7. English Majors Entry Point
  • 6. Luxury Manhattan Apartment
  • 5. Picasso's Folly
  • 4. International Porn Downloading Headquarters
  • 3. Fortress of Servitude
  • 2. Casa de Livin' La Vida Veal
  • 1. Wraparound Turbo Demoralizer 2000

Yup, the list pretty much says it all.

Funny Looking Blog

TypePad is currently updating their services, and it's affected the look of my blog.

Please stay tuned while they fix the problem. Hopefully, it will be very soon....

[Update: July 3, 2005] The lists have been fixed, but if you click on a Popular Post item, the background, images, and layout are still not fixed. I've done all I can....hopefully, TypePad will fix the issues by the end of this weekend.

Canadian Smarties, eh?, Part II

Well, we certainly love our chocolate! Further to my original post on Smarties, here are some more fun facts about Smarties (from Nestlé)

  • Nearly 17,000 Smarties are eaten every minute in the UK.
  • Nestlé Rowntree has produced 5,000 million Smarties caps over the last 25 years.
  • When production of Smarties resumed after the Second World War, Smarties were made with plain chocolate because of the shortage of milk.
  • If the Smarties eaten in one year were laid end to end it would equal almost 102,000 km and if they were put in tubes and these put end to end it would equal almost 29,000 km.

And here I always thought that Smarties could only be found in Canada! You learn something new everyday.

I also love their KitKat bar. There's something about the combination of chocolate and crispy wafer that always satisfies my sweet tooth. I love the fact that Nestlé came out with their KitKat Chunky MAX bar. You get a lot of chocolate in this bar.

Now that I'm exploring the Nestlé site, I had no idea that they made a lot of my favourite chocolate bars, including: Coffee Crisp, Kit Kat, Mackintosh's Toffee, Mirage, Quality Street, Smarties and Turtles (they make other chocolates, too).

Speaking of Mackintosh's Toffee, I have vivid memories of sharing the toffee with my father when I was a child. It was his favourite candy. Because he's passed on now, I really appreciate things that remind me of the good times with him and of my childhood. It's funny how certain things will touch off your memory, toffee and chocolate, hmmm.

Canadian Smarties, eh?

Dontcha just love this?

Smartiesfront

Smarties were my favourite chocolate candy when I was a child. They were a special treat. I vividly remember buying them and putting them in the fridge so that the chocolate would get cool and then they would melt in my mouth. I love chocolate, by the way.

I saw this box today and had to buy it. It's kind of stereotypical to put 'eh?' on the box, but that's what makes it kinda cool. The fact that you can only get Smarties here in Canada makes it even more unique.

The side of the box reads: 'Eat the red ones last, eh?' and the box only has red and white Smarties.

The white ones do have the maple leaf on them. Love this patriotic stuff!

Earth Day, 2005

Earthdayresults_1

Today is Earth Day, 2005, so I took the Earth Day Footprint quiz over at EarthDay.net. This was my result. It really makes you think about your Ecological footprint relative to other people within your own country. Interesting.

And, I don't even own a car! Can you imagine the results for those people driving SUVs?!

Let's Clean It Up!

Greg's right: My Happenings: Ugly Spring, it's getting pretty ugly out there. We finally have some nice weather here in Toronto and all the snow has melted. There are a lot of people out cycling, walking their dogs, enjoying the nice weather, but then you see people who still think the planet is one big garbage dump for them. They're too lazy to hold onto their tissue, papers, coffee cup, gum wrappers, dog droppings, cigarette butts, and all their other crap until they come across a garbage can.

It's disgusting how some people have such little regard for the planet. Would you throw your empty Tim Horton's coffee cup in the corner of your living room? How about tossing your used tissue on the floor of your bathroom? Who do you think will come along and pick this stuff up? There's not enough street cleaners out there to handle all the mess.

Do your part and don't contribute to the garbage. Pick up a piece of litter while you're on your daily walk. Don't throw away that gum wrapper or newspaper or ATM receipt on the street. It doesn't take too much of an extra effort to put it in a garbage can.

Let's keep Canada and her lands beautiful!

Happy Easter!

Hope you have a very Happy Easter!

Finally, those evil chocolate Cadbury Easter mini eggs will be out of the stores tomorrow. I am addicted to those things!

Until next year...
