I was inspired by Interesting Google Satelitte Maps to post some Google Maps satellite images for interesting or touristy places for Toronto:
- Downsview Park (where Pope John Paul II was for Youth Day 2002) and Airport
- Toronto City Centre Airport and Toronto Islands
- SkyDome and CN Tower
- Union Station (green roof, white are the stations)
- Royal York Hotel (directly across from Union Station along Front Street)
- Toronto Financial District
- Toronto City Hall (circular buildings. Remember it gets blown to bits in Resident Evil 2: Apocalyse with Mila Jovovich?)
- The Promenade (Shopping Centre)
- Metro Toronto Zoo
- Mount Pleasant Cemetery (where many famous people are buried, including: Glenn Gould, Billy Burch, Timothy Eaton, William Lyon Mackenzie King, Robert Simpson, Frederick Banting, and others)
- Queen's Park
- Roy Thomson Hall (the circle)
- Ontario Place
- Queen's Quay
- Ashbridge's Bay Park
- Lester B. Pearson Int'l Airport
A couple of neat-looking images, but I have no idea what they are:
By the way, you've heard that Google has also released Google Maps for the UK, right?
I had no idea how crazy, excuse me, how complicated the road system was over there. They must have the best drivers in the world. Or, is that the worst?
[Update:05/09/2005] David says that Unknown2 is the Toronto Water filtration plant on the Humber River. We're still wondering about Unknown1. It might be farm related. I just thought it made a cool image.
A couple more pictures:
- Edwards Gardens
- High Park
- Toronto Island, Leslie spit (if you zoom in, you can see the ferries in the channel)
Thanks, David!

Hey Karen... nice to see all the Toronto google map links. The second of the two 'unknowns' is actually the Toronto Water filtration plant on the Humber river. My six yr old affectionately calls it the poop plant as it's where all the waste is treated - some humid summer mornings it can get rather smelly...
as for the first unknown - it's pretty rural, north west of Hamilton. seems farm related. no idea.
few others for you:
