Ever been rejected? Ever been a real jerk (male or female) when someone just wouldn't accept no when they asked for your phone number? Well, apparently, there is a service in the States called RejectionHotline that provides a fake number that you can give to the opposite sex when you don't want to give out your real number. Supposedly, it lessens the harshness of being outright rejected because the person did give you a number and didn't like laugh in your face or something like that.
Don't know what to think about this. On one hand, it is kind of funny to be given a number and when you dial it a recording tells you that you've reached the RejectionHotline and the person who gave you the number does not want you to phone them and that they were not interested in you in the first place. On the other hand, it's kind of moronic that there is an actual service out there that apparently millions of people are using to give out fake phone numbers.
But, whatever happened to just being honest and saying No thanks or I'm sorry but I'm married (or whatever nice way you can dissuade someone). Is it that men just won't accept no for an answer? Is it because women are too nice and don't want to hurt the guy's feelings? Or vice versa? But, apparently, not just supposedly mature adult people are using the service. Some children have been giving out fake numbers to other kids and there are a lot of hurt feelings resulting from this. That's just sad.
Don't know why people can't just make up their own fake number? Or say No. Hmm..
Something to think about.

I recall about 10 years ago I attempted to get the phone number of (I assume) an ESL student. Without a trace of sarcasm she replied, "I don't know my phone number because I never have to call it."
It still makes me laugh.
